Swire Marine Training Centre

In June 2007, Swire Pacific Offshore opened its dedicated marine training centre in Loyang, Singapore. The centre is the most advanced of its kind in the offshore industry and the first such facility in Asia. The facility has the ability to fully simulate the working environment of an offshore support vessel in a safe, well managed setting. Bespoke simulators have been created to provide training in bridge management, anchor handling, dynamic positioning, and engine room operations. Since opening, over 300 personnel have received training at the facility with annual throughput expected to be about 480 staff. Swire Pacific Offshore recognises that human resource development is critical to sustaining quality service. As a leading provider of offshore services to the world's oil majors, we are continually looking for ways to enhance our performance through staff training programmes and an emphasis on superior marine skills.

In 2005, the Board of the Swire Pacific Offshore group recognised that with operations taking place in ever more challenging environments, the challenge for the company was to develop a comprehensive marine training programme that could prepare staff appropriately. The training centre has allowed Swire Pacific Offshore to make the necessary significant advances in staff training and has already demonstrated its value as a complement to traditional 'on the job' training methods and statutory certification courses. Swire sea staff will undergo five days of non-statutory training every three years. The centre provides a focal point in sea staff development within the company by providing a uniform experience of offshore operations.

Swire Pacific Offshore has made a significant investment in innovative technology which has allowed the simulators installed in the centre to provide the most integrated full-mission bridge and engine room experience of any simulator worldwide. Classrooms are on hand to provide space for courses to take place. Courses include full bridge and engine room management, DP training, safety and computer instruction. Such an investment of financial resources and management time reiterates the company's goal of operational excellence and is providing encouragement to existing and prospective employees.

Swire Pacific Offshore is strongly committed to safety, reliability and quality service through the employment, training and development of qualified and experienced officers and crew. With the future of oil exploration in harsh environments, the new training centre bolsters our ability to prepare officers and crew for difficult jobs in difficult places.
