Swire Pacific Offshore Expands Offshore Tug Fleet

On 1st August 2008, Swire Pacific Offshore (SPO) took 100% ownership of the 4200 bhp Z-peller tug "Pacific Tempest" (ex Mai Po) from jointly controlled company HUD Marine.  A sister vessel, to be named, "Pacific Typhoon" will be delivered later this month after docking in the United Arab Emirates.  The vessels have been working for SPO's customers in the Middle East under the commercial management of SPO's Dubai office for several years, but will now also be under the operational and technical management of SPO as well.

Built in the 1990s to a very high specification in Japan, "Pacific Typhoon" and "Pacific Tempest" are modern towing vessels with 55 tonnes bollard pull capable of towing both forward and astern.  The vessels are well suited to construction support work and tanker berthing at offshore terminals.

Marketing Services Manager, Kavita Kaur commented, "With the arrival of our two large accommodation barges into the SPO fleet in 2010 and the expansion in the world FPSO fleet, we are looking to expand the number of tugs we own and operate.  These vessels have a good track record in the Gulf with our customers."

Specifications of the vessels are available on the Swire Pacific Offshore website www.swire.com.sg
